Neurofeedback and biofeedback

A Multimodal Approach to Diagnosis and Treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD/ADD)

ADHD/ADD diagnosis and treatment are a particular specialty at our clinic. We use both standard techniques and newer, cutting-edge practices to assess clients and help them improve.

Treatment of ADHD is recognized by most authorities to be a multiphasic process, involving 1. training the person to focus better (via working memory training, brainwave operant conditioning, and mindfulness/cognitive therapy), 2. family behavioral training, 3. school interventions, and very often 4. medication.

Our approach is based on a thorough evaluation using interviews, psychological testing, and sometimes quantitative EEG (QEEG). Research has shown that ADD is a neurophysiological disorder involving an underactivation of the self-control areas of the frontal cortex of the brain. This can usually be seen in brain wave recordings (and other forms of brain imaging) when they are compared to a database of normal individuals of the same age.

Our treatment options include Cogmed Working Memory Training, neurofeedback, and other forms of applied psychophysiology, in addition to cognitive approaches and behavioral therapy with the family, school, and client.
