Child psychology has been a major part of Al Collins’s practice since his internship at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

He has practiced and supervised play therapy for over 30 years, for four years at the Beacon Therapeutic School in Chicago (a leading day school for the treatment of severely emotionally disturbed children and adolescents), at several mental health clinics in Anchorage, and in private practice.

His work includes:

  • Individual therapy for children and adolescents
  • Family therapy
  • Psychological evaluations (including custody and forensic evaluations)
  • Filial therapy (teaching parents to be play therapists for their children, especially where attachment disorders are present)
  • School interventions
  • Applied psychophysiology, biofeedback, and “mindfulness” training in self awareness for ADHD, anxiety disorders, depression, and post-traumatic conditions.
